Upgrades to the Pediatric Building ($17,500)

God has provided a wonderful building for the Pediatric Department. However we have discovered in the first two rainy seasons that we have some changes to make so that the building can better serve the children of Koutiala. We have two main problems, sun and rain. Because of budget issues we had to cut several porches from the building. Leaving two sides of the building exposed to the sun and rain.

During most of the year these rooms are excessively hot, in fact you can feel the heat when you touch the walls. When rains come these same walls are battered by the gusting winds and driven rain blows through the windows.

To resolve these issues we need to build an awning-like shelter against these long exposed walls. This will not only cool the rooms and protect them from rain but will also provide protected places for parking motor bikes and vehicles for the staff.

The Pediatric building also has an open park like area that was intended for the children. Unfortunately it also needs some expansion as during the rainy season it becomes a pool and blowing rain enters into the patients rooms. The extension of the roof will provide room for nursing stations as well as reducing the rain problem and still providing room for children to play.
